Low GI Diet Revolution

December 31st, 2007

With the wedding, a recent trip to the ER on Xmas because of a pump site malfunction, and New Year’s resolutions, I decided to give the Low GI Diet Revolution a whirl this week. I got a Borders gift certificate in my secret santa at work, so I figured what the heck!

I know that I should know all the foods that have a slower impact on my blood sugar levels by now, but, I DON’T. (bad D girl) And, after reading the first couple of chapters I feel like I am going through a total refresher course of all the stuff I forgot about in Diabetes 101 in November of 2000. (that’s when I was diagnosed with the big D)

So far it’s not telling me that carbs are bad, or that I should be eating a whole cow a week. It is just telling you about the low gi carbs that have a slower impact on your blood sugars, and how they actually keep up your energy level and curb those hungers pains to a minimum. That I should be eating at least 5-6 small meals a day. Yea like we all didn’t know that. Back in the NPH days that is exactly how I did it by the way.

The thing I like the most is that it gives you a 12 week program to follow, and it has different goals each week such as food, exercise and an activity goal, and different combinations of foods for THE FULL WEEK.

Yes, I need order, it is so much better for me, when someone tells me to have this at breakfast, this at snack this at lunch etc…and if you don’t like the food listed in their sample menu the back of the book has a bunch more different combos. Or you can make your own recipes because you will know the foods that are lower in the glycemic index and you will make better choices.

Well, tomorrow its the first day, so wish me luck! I will post from time to time to let you know how it is going so keep checking back!

I bought that same book. Haven’t been able to read it. I posted about it. It’s good stuff, I just don’t want to change my bad ways. Blah.

I’ve found some really good tasting recipes at http://www.lowglycemicrecipes.net They have breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. And they’re always adding new ones. They list carb amount, calories, fat, fiber content, Glycemic Index (GI), Glyco Load (GL). I haven’t seen any other sites that offer the GI and GL together in their recipes. Good site if you’re looking for new ideas and good info.
