What a day…

March 8th, 2010

Last night I had to suspend my pump because I was having a low and bolused for a snack at 5am when my husband and I came home from a bar… But forgot to check first and it started bolusing.

Well, I thought I turned off the suspend mode but apparently not because I woke up to this…

Over 600+

and this is how the entire day went below!

Took all day to get my blood sugar down, and during that whole fiasco I had ketones too. Ugh!

Note to self: Make sure to un-suspend!!

    Gina,

So frustrating - I know how hard you’re working… Gotta’ love seeing the happy number at the end of that trail, eh? Good job getting back on track!

    Cheers!

Hi Gina. I’m glad to see you are back to normal. What were you able to eat throuout that day, as you were bringing your bg down? Bob West Virginia GentleB@gmail.com

Ouch - not fun! I guess when you set it to Suspend that you did not set a time frame (e.g. 4 hours)?
When you have BG’s like this - do you take care of your BG by injecting rather then using the insulin pump? Just curious. That’s what I do, especially when I have to do a BG correction and my pumps says to bolus for 4 units of insulin. I’d rather inject at that point in time! I tend to only bolus no more then 1.5 - 2 units at a time with my insulin pump.

Anyway, just glad things are back to normal. You had a good evening obviously with coming home at 5 a.m.! Whoo! Whoo! To be young again (I used to come home from a night out - at 6 a.m. - and then go to work for 8 a.m. (Thursdays were the big night for going out in younger days).

    Bob- I didn’t eat till 8pm

Anna- when I suspend it doesn’t give me that feature to do a timeframe. You just have to unsuspend what I should have done was a temp basal instead that was really stupid on my part. Oh well, lesson learned! ughhhh

    Gina,

I have been down that “forgot to suspend” road before. What a pain! What I do know is do a temp basal rate of 0% for either :30 or an hour. That way if you forget, your pump reingages on its own.

BTW, are you still using your CGM?
